Some people cringe when they think of all the technology that we have today, but there are plenty of ways that this technology has done some major good in the world.
One area that has vastly improved through the use of innovative ideas and technologies has been education. Today, more and more students are able to receive an online education because of the following four innovations.
1. Virtual Charter Schools
Back in the day, there were only three options for a child to receive an education: go to public school, go to private school or be home schooled. Today, there is one other way that children can get an education, and that is through the use of virtual charter schools.
These schools are set up virtually, and a child attends class, performs his or her studies through online learning tools and even receives instruction from an online teacher. Because of this, students are now able to learn at their own pace instead of being required to follow the pace of their classmates, so students who are more advanced can graduate from high school early if desired and those who have difficulty will have a lowered curriculum to help them focus on their trouble zones.
Students are still required to pass certain tests and learn certain subjects and topics, but everything is in the form of an online classroom instead of an in-person class.
2. Cloud Computing
The introduction of cloud computing has also greatly improved online education. Now, students are no longer required to save all of their information from their home computer to a USB device in order to access it at school. Instead, students can save their schoolwork on cloud computing and access it no matter where they are. This way, students who are absent can catch up on schoolwork that same day instead of falling behind, and students don’t have to worry about forgetting books or assignments at home or at school since they can access them from anywhere.
3. Mobile Devices
More and more schools are getting access to tablets for their students, and this has become a great online learning tool. Because of these devices, students can access apps and other online materials while on the go, providing them with both the ability to learn no matter where they are and giving them access to interactive learning, which has proven to be more effective. Students can play games, see live lectures and even read online articles with these devices, all of which can greatly improve their education.
4. Social Networks
The debate about social media in the classroom is a hot topic, with most people finding themselves either completely for it or completely against it. But what everyone needs to realize is that there are benefits to social media in the classroom. Students can have designated social networks to use to connect with other students and their teachers while not in the classroom. This allows students to reach out and ask for help from others, and it could be a good way for students to connect for school projects. Plus, blogging can be a great way for students to turn in papers and learn from others while improving their writing skills.
