Many companies believe it’s a really “cool” idea to engage employees in activities that build teams and strengthen employee morale. What better time than summertime to get your employees geared up and excited about having fun while at work? While sure you may not be able to offer long lazy days on the beach- you can still do things that can keep the spirit of summer alive and well for employees that probably already wish they were somewhere else enjoying the sunshine! If your workplace tends to get hot in the summer and you want to do more than just provide desk fans you can pump up the air conditioner by considering air handler rentals.
While keeping your employees happy and cool, food is always an easy and fairly inexpensive way to keep them happy! In summertime outdoor eating is big. How great would it be host a small barbeque or picnic for lunch one day out of the week? Get employees involved by providing the main dish and have each sign up with a side dish or if budget permits; have management host the meal. Ice cream or chilled fruit such as watermelon can be a nice treat at a meeting and wouldn’t break the bank.
Another easy and inexpensive way to incorporate summer into the workplace would be to lighten the dress code. While it’s true that some companies can’t opt out of the suit and tie attire, having a jean day or allowing casual shoes such as flip flops on certain days would give employees a break from stuffy clothes and get them in the summertime mood.
Volunteering in the community can also be fun as well as rewarding. It’s great for the spirit and can re-energize employees and give them a sense of purpose.
Because summer makes you think of outdoors how about taking advantage of the warm weather and mustering up a little competition between coworkers. An after work or weekend game of softball or soccer would be a great way to loosen up the work atmosphere and have fun. Scavenger hunts or simple games such as a horseshoe toss or Frisbee are excellent and simple ways to exercise and have a good time.
Employees are always happy when they can include family in activities. If your town has a local amusement park, make one Saturday an employee day. You can also encourage employees to have a family event at the beach or a water park.
Spread the Coolness
Also, you could walk around at noon time and hand out chilled sodas, water, lemonade or tea one day to beat the heat. Remember that air handler rentals can provide a cool workplace where you can have summer events inside as well as outside. Play upbeat music such as the beach boys or reggae; and watch employees begin to enjoy themselves while working.
There are many things you can do to keep your employees happy and if you can’t think of any- ask! Bring up the topic in a meeting or create a summer fun suggestion box. Pick one idea or pick many! Bringing summer to the workplace and making employees happy is easy and will prove to bring up the overall spirit of your employees during a season that is all about having a good time!
