When a young couple gets married soon after meeting, how do they really know enough about one another to make a life-long commitment? This might be the lesson that Khloe Kardashian Odom will be learning from her quick marriage to Lamar Odom.
The couple met and got married within the same month; their wedding date was September 27, 2009. The two seemed happier than either had ever been before, and the wedding appeared to be a joining of two people who had finally found “the one” and were ready to build a life together.
As the Odom’s fourth anniversary is upon them, the two are completely estranged with sources saying there has been little to no communication for months now. Khloe has dropped “Odom” from her name on at least one social media site, and her mother, Kris Jenner, is encouraging divorce.
How have two people, with such a strong passion for one another, and a new life as husband and wife, grown so far apart in a matter of years?
Addicted To Crack
Reports have been out for weeks now that Lamar Odom is addicted to crack. He has been smoking the drug continuously at the expense of his own health and his marriage. Sources say that Khloe was doing everything she possibly could to get Lamar to see his problem, and to seek help. A Kardashian family intervention last year lead Lamar to rehab, but he did not complete stay clean for very long. He did, however, stop using during basketball season, but seemed to return to crack right when that ended.
Lamar’s crack addiction has taken over his life to the point where his marriage appears to be beyond repair. Lamar has not made public comments until now. It seems his father, Joe Odom, made comments that Lamar did not agree with, so Lamar countered with a long response on Twitter suggesting that the only thing Joe gave Lamar was “his demons”, meaning his own drug addiction. Lamar also says that the Kardashians are the first people to really love him since his mother and grandmother, who raised him, each passed away.
Lamar is taking full responsibility for his actions, behaviors, and lifestyle choices. Is this the first step toward admitting he has a problem, and seeking treatment again?
We have seen celebrities, and non-celebrities, with longer time periods of addiction and alcoholism recover and start a new, substance-free life. Maybe Lamar Odom can be added to the list of people like Drew Barrymore, Robert Downey, Jr., and Brett Favre who have overcome debilitating addictions to return to their craft.
What is next for Khloe and Lamar?
Will the two be able to reconnect and repair what has been broken in their marriage, or will Lamar continue on a dark path of crack addiction that really only leads to jail or death? Only time will tell, but let’s hope that something good can come out of putting yourself on reality television for years for all to see.
Another intervention seems out of the question. Will another arrest, Khloe filing for divorce, or something worse, make Lamar see that he needs help?
