Everyone needs a bit of a break from working all the time but vacationing can be expensive and stressful to plan. Saving some money and planning a staycation instead of a trip somewhere can be a good way to take some time off and spend time with the family.
The key to organizing a staycation is making it as close to a real vacation as possible without ever leaving the city. There are endless choices of activities to do at the house or even in your own town that can still give you the fun and freedom of a vacation without the cost of gas, plane tickets or a hotel room.
Make Your Staycation Official
To make your staycation feel more official and closer to a real vacation, plan about a week or two off from work and make sure you have a definite start and end date. During that period of time you can let some of the housework slide and forget about your work obligations for a while. Make sure you are relaxing and not thinking about chores.
While it is important to take it easy you don’t want you and the kids sitting in front of the TV all day or simply watching movies at home. Think of some activities that everyone would like and plan them out as you would with any vacation. You can alternate between some days at home and some days out on an excursion so that no one feels bored.
Catch Up With Family Time
At home it can be fun just to spend time with family nights that you never had time for because of work and other obligations. You can plan a game night, camp out in the backyard with the kids or cook a meal together for a party at home. If there is anything that you have always wanted the family to do together then a staycation is the perfect opportunity to get it done.
Of course there will be some days on vacation when you want to go out. There are probably plenty of places and attractions in your own town that you’ve never seen. Go to a museum, an amusement park or a historical landmark that your city is famous for. If you live near the beach then take advantage of it and spend the day there. If you live near mountains then find a trail to go on a day hike together as a group.
Just As Relaxing
A staycation can be just as relaxing and fun as going on a trip if you plan it in a way that will make everyone happy. It can be completely free if you want it that way but if you want to spend a little extra money just to reward yourself you can find a few more expensive things to do like dinner at a nice restaurant or a night at the theatre.
The goal of a vacation is just to forget about the stress of work and relax with the family. A staycation is the perfect way to take time off on a vacation that is cheap and stress-free.
