Fireworks are extremely fun to watch and even more fun to light them yourself. Many people light their own fireworks for all types of occasions. Some of the occasions have included weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, special accomplishments, and best of all to ring in the New Year.
However, they are very dangerous and many safety precautions need to be put in place.
Watch the Weather
Even though it may be a dry day, winds are extremely dangerous. It may seem like a beautiful slightly breezy day, but not for an activity such as lighting fireworks. The slightest winds can make a flame go the wrong way and potentially catch on fire.
However, if you are already scheduled to light them up and cannot control the weather, be sure to have plenty of space and water just in case of any dangers.
Have a Side of Water
Many people overlook this important aspect when lighting fireworks. Just in case anything goes wrong when setting up fireworks, it is vital that there is a second option.
If there is a fire, having a bucket of water on the side is used to let out any possible flames and fires. Consider having about 3-5 gallons near the setup area at all times. Set up the water in a way that will be easy to lift and can handle a controllable pour.
Have an Open Area
Lighting fireworks in a tight and small area is very dangerous. Many people make the mistake to light fireworks in a very condensed area, not giving enough space for good viewing and most importantly, giving the option of a possible hazard to occur.
In fact, if a hazard does occur there won’t be enough space to control it and it will also cause the possibility for other dangerous happenings. Find an area about 20 feet diameter of open space. Keep all children and anyone not lighting the fireworks as far away as possible.
Make sure to wet the surrounding grounds with water so they remain damp when you set off your fireworks. Just in case any excess debris and flame from the fireworks fall, they won’t be hazardous or flammable due to the wet surface they will land on.
Always be aware of all possible safety tips that are available when lighting fireworks. It is best to have 2 extra people with you when lighting them for extra help and in case of an emergency.
