Styling Aids – Just What You Need to Tame Hair & Give You the Look You Always Wanted

“A Little Dab’ll Do Ya!”

Styling aids have come a long way since Brylcreem was introduced in 1928. This once popular hair styling product for men promised “strong hair” and warned that if used “the gals will all pursue ya.”

That was then. Today, styling aids for both men and women come in many different forms than just water, mineral oil and beeswax in a tube. Depending on the look you want, there is a styling aid to tame unruly hair, add volume, and help straighten out those curls your mother loves, but you hate.

Styling aids come in different forms besides gels. Styling wax is used on dry hair to create shapes and provides an all day hold. A styling balm can be used on damp or dry hair to add volume or to create instant styling while on the go. Finishing creams are used to help mange unruly hair or straighten curls while styling gels are are the multi-purpose styling aid that we’re most familiar with. Styling gels are good for all hair types and provides a soft-hold while giving hair a wet look.

All styling aids come with different degrees of “hold” depending on the look you want and all are designed to work with certain types of hair. Products designed to straighten aren’t going to work well on someone with short, straight hair. Be sure to read the label and choose the appropriate styling aid for the look that you want to achieve.

Achieving the look you always wanted to have is easy by combining the right products with your hair type. And remember, when in doubt, ask questions or look for recommendations on which styling aids are best for the look you want to achieve.
